Dry well

The dry well temporarily absorbs the draining rainwater; via the seepage openings it gradually soaks away into the surrounding earth. Infiltration through a dry well is the right choice when the shaft is located within a larger area that can be filled with gravel or other permeable material.

A dry well can of course also be combined with a rain cistern. The cistern collects rainwater and when it is full, the overflowing water is directed into the infiltration system rather than into the sewer system. By this means you can often save on sewage charges.
